PREPARATION BEFORE THE TRIP

Passports and Visas
A visa is required for all nationalities (except ASEAN Citizens (Laos, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, The Philippines, Cambodia, Myanmar, Indonesia), Scandinavian citizens as well as Japanese, South Korean tourists.). Full passport is required. This must be valid for 6 months beyond the intended length of stay

Insurance
This is an adventurous activity and some of our routes pass through remote areas. Please be aware, that Heritage Line’s partnered company “The Indochina Trekking Company” (TITC) provides and operates the biking part during your journey with The Jayavarman. Therefore, Heritage Line is not responsible for any damage occurring during the biking or while being on the biking tour. TITC has a liability insurance covering 3rd party, only. You are requested to purchase your own travel and health insurance. It is essential that you purchase a travel insurance which also covers helicopter emergency evacuation and repatriation. On arrival, please hand copies of emergency contact numbers to the biking guide. TITC can help you to purchase both insurances. Please advise us if you need assistance when booking the bike trip.

Vaccinations and Health
At least 4 months before your journey, we recommend you to consult a local general practitioner for up to date advice on suggested vaccines and malaria prophylaxis.

First Aid
All biking guides have received basic first aid training. Our biking guides will be carrying a first aid kit, but it is recommended that each guest brings her/his own personal first aid supplies. The kit needs to include antiseptic wound wipes, antiseptic liquid/cream, steristrips, sterile gauze and bandage and oral rehydration sachets.

Weather
The climate is mainly hot and humid throughout, but there are a range of climate differences between the North and the South. The South is generally quite tropical, with warm temperatures throughout the year. The sun can be intense, so make sure to bring sunscreen. We also recommend bringing a raincoat.

Essential Biking Gear
We provide you helmet and a water bottle. According to your needs, please bring your own gloves and shorts; stiff soled cycling shoes or trainers; eye protection; lightweight waterproof jacket; insect repellent; sunhat; strong sunscreen, puncture repair kit.

ON ARRIVAL

Safety
Safety is our most important consideration when leading bike trips. It is TITC’s policy that each guest must wear a helmet when biking. We provide a helmet for each guest. Be aware that cycling can be dangerous and accidents can happen, you are responsible for your own safety whilst riding. Our guests are requested to sign TITC’s disclaimer form (*) before riding a bike for TITC’s insurance purposes. Traffic rules in Vietnam are not strict! The biking guide will brief you about safe riding on the roads.

The Bikes
Our bikes are good quality lightweight Trek 4500 24 speed Mountain bikes with Shimano Deore components, V Brakes and Rock Shock front suspension. We can offer a range of frame sizes from 15" to 22.5". We also offer Hybrid bike Canondales 24 speed Canondales components, V Brakes and Rock Shock front suspension. We can offer a range of frame sizes from S to L. It is recommended when confirming a booking to give your height to the operator in order to book the correct size well in advance. The bike tour will be led by an experienced bike guide who is proficient in maintaining and repairing the bikes. All tools and spares will be provided.

Support
Our guide will carry tool kits and some important spares like tubes and brakes. In case an incident happens, he will fix your bike. The biking guide will also carry a first aid kit, water and snacks for the guests.

With our biking tours we are continually checking our holidays to try to make sure that they are as socially, economically and environmentally sound as possible. We are committed to and have been affiliate members of the Environmental Certification Green Globe 21 Scheme. We are working to develop our operational and management practices in an environmentally sustainable way. Our intention is to deliver biking tours that do not contribute to the destruction of Vietnam’s unique cultural and natural environment.
