Discover Vietnam and Cambodia's natural and cultural heritage with a combination of cruising and biking! This new program is offered along with our downstream 8 day/7 night cruise "The Lost Civilization" from Siem Reap, Cambodia to Saigon, Vietnam. On 5 days of this journey we will bike an average distance of 25 km per day. Our bike trips are easy to moderate and require an average level of fitness. While the other cruise guests take part in the standard excursions, we set off with a small team to explore the stunning scenery on and off the beaten track following the river and the ship. Pedaling at a steady pace through an ever-changing landscape, we pass green rice paddies, mango and coconut groves, picturesque fishing villages, colorful pagodas and charming people before returning to The Jayavarman for relaxing evenings. | |||
| Day 1: Siem Reap - Tonle Sap Lake | |||

High water program (approx. between October and middle of December) At 12:30 AM gather at the meeting point and transfer to The Jayavarman, where the crew is looking forward to embracing our guests. Welcome cocktail and lunch on the cruise liner Welcome Dinner in Indochine Dining Hall. Mooring and overnight on the lake. Low water program (approx. between middle of December and September) At 8 AM, gather at the meeting point and transfer by coach to Prek K'Dam on the Tonle Sap River. Enjoy snacks and cold drinks on the way with a brief stop at at the spider town of Skon. Embarkation in Prek K'Dam and welcome cocktail early afternoon. The Jayavarman sets sail upstream towards Kampong Chhnang and the great Tonle Sap Lake. We wind our way through the jungle and as the river narrows, it makes you feel at peace with yourself and the community. In the afternoon our Cambodian guide will meet you for a briefing and the bike fitting to ensure we can start biking the following morning well prepared and all tranquil. Later that evening meet your fellow passengers on board for briefing at the Henry Mouhot Lounge and Welcome Dinner at Indochine Dining Hall. Including Lunch box, Dinner. | |||
| Day 2: Tonle Sap - Kampong Chhnang - Kampong Cham | |||

High water program Before the sun rises, The Jayavarman sets sail to cross the Tonle Sap Lake. As the ship is about to exit the lake, the marshlands exhibit spectacular scenery along the river banks of Kampong Chhnang province. Low water program We meet in the morning aboard in Kompong Chnang. After briefing and bike fitting, we embark on bicycle and ride past small town of Kompong Chhnang. The ride will take us through beautiful rural areas of Kompong Chhnang (Clay Pot Port). This charming town is settled on the bank the Tonle Sap River, is a tale of two cities: the leafy centre, its focal point a grassy park, and the bustling dockside. Nearby sights include two floating villages and a hamlet famous for its distinctive pottery. Along the way, we can contemplate the picturesque scenery of the Cambodian countryside with dotted with villages, rice paddies. At 8.30 am in the morning, our Cambodian cycling guide will meet group on board. Following the trip briefing and bike fitting, we set off for a stunning day to explore the rural Kampong Cham on two wheels. Kampong Cham, situated on the banks of the Mekong River, is the capital city of Kampong Cham province. It is Cambodia's third largest city. We start riding from Han chey pagoda 9km to town of Kompong Cham then across river to other Koh Pen (During high water we need to take boat, Low lever of water we across bamboo bridge) then ride around the island to get the insights of the peaceful life of Cambodian. The ride will take us through the picturesque Cambodia villages, we cycle through lanes dotted with corn paddies, bean and taro plantation. Return to the boat for lunch. Cycling: Around 30km | |||

Early in the morning we pass a truly indescribable scene while approaching Phnom Penh's river promenade. After breakfast, we leave the cruise behind and enjoy our interesting morning on saddle. Today we explore this bustling city's major sights by bike including National Museums of Khmer Arts, Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda and Toul Sleng Museum. Thereafter, we return to The Jayavarman where a variety of cocktails will be at your disposal to ease the nerves, followed by Cambodia's traditional and opulent Apsara dance performance. Experience the brilliance and richness of the culture, the soothing sounds of traditional music, the calming scent of incense sticks and a delicious Khmer food buffet. Cycling: Around 20km | |||
| Day 5: Phnom Penh - border crossing | |||

Wake up to the sun rising over the Mekong for Thai Chi on the Sun Deck. The Jayavarman then casts off for a day of cruising along the main Mekong Channel. This is pretty much an international shipping route Late afternoon we set off to the Vietnamese border for the usual formalities, which in this part of the world takes a bit of time. During the afternoon cruise, there will be time to relax on the Sun Deck, get a massage in the Spa, or taking part in Heritage Line's Vietnamese cooking class. The ship moors midstream overnight. | |||
| Day 6: Chau Doc - Cai Be | |||

Welcome to the circus of fish. At 8 am, our Vietnamese biking guide meet group aboard. After trip briefing, we enjoy a short guided cycling to discover Chau Doc. We first cycle to Sam Mountain, where dozens of pagodas and temples such as Tay An Pagoda, Thoai Ngoc Hau temple. Visit Lady Chua Xu, which was founded in the 1820s, this pagoda stands facing Sam Mountain. From top of Sam Mountain we can catch the panoramic view over Cambodian border, ride down hill before we hit the flat terrain and keep riding to Cho Vam and Tan Chau before returning to the boat. Back to the ship for lunch then we head towards Cai Be. Cycling: Around 30km | |||
| Day 7: Sa Dec - Cai Be | |||

Today's tour starts with the visit of Cai Be's colorful floating market on board a traditional sampan. Cruise among local sampans coming from all provinces of the delta full of fruits and vegetables. We embark a traditional sampan* to tour Binh Thanh Island and its man-made canals. Here, every villager is involved in the process of growing and processing water hyacinths into natural fibre floor mats and rattan baskets. After lunch onboard, the ship arrives in Cai Be. After the market tour, our bicycling adventure begins. We cycle through the lush, fertile country side, on a small rural road, enjoying the tranquil countryside. The ride will lead us to charming fruit orchards along the way where we will make a pause for some relaxation. Further on, we visit a small factory producing handicrafts made from coconut to end our tour. We will then board The Jayavarman for a relaxing evening cruise with a Farewell Dinner on the Sun Deck while heading towards Saigon. | |||

our cruise with The Jayavarman comes to a close as the ship winds its way to My Tho which is located 70km South of Saigon on the upper Mekong river in Vietnam. Disembark at around 9:00am and continue your journey in the buzzing city of Saigon. Although it is our intention to operate the itinerary as detailed proposal, we will do our utmost to stick to the set itinerary, however we cannot be held responsible for any last minute changes that might occur. It may be necessary to make some changes as a result of climatic conditions, alterations to cruise schedules or other operational factors. | |||
